    Ceremony to mark the closure of the National Library at Stamford Road; Masters of Ceremony announce the arrival of the Minister of State for National Development and Trade and Industry Dr Vivian Balakrishnan; Director of the National Library gives a short speech relating how the library has made a difference in the lives of many Singaporeans and foreigners too, she details the major points in the library's history including how this library was the first library in Singapore to be free of charge for users, how the library's reference librarians have helped in the publication of many diverse books, how new services came into being such as the courtyard cafe with new concept of the library as a 'lifestyle' library not just a reference library, brief look at what the new library building will offer users; Minister presents prizes for the 'Mementos and Memories Photography Contest'; Minister is invited to launch a virtual walkthrough of the library project by typing the keyword into a computer, guests view the walkthrough; Dr Christopher Chia of the National Library Board, presents tokens of appreciation to schools who took part in the walkthrough project; distinguished guests are invited for a tour of the library conducted by Miss Judy Ng Deputy Director of the National Library; banner outside the library 'National Library at Stamford The Closing Chapter 31st March 2004' families take photos, Minister walks to the entrance for the unfurling of a banner to mark the closure of the library; singing of 'Auld Lang Syne'.
