  • Synopsis :

    1)  Singapore: Singapore Airlines (SIA) captain who wants to lead the Air Line Pilots Association Singapore (pilot union), accused SIA's management of abusing the goodwill of staff at the pilots union's election. The accusation surprised some as the government had previously warned them about their confrontational attitude. (00:01:47)

    2)  Singapore: Minister of Transport Yeo Cheow Tong said it is time for SIA's management and staff to work together to meet challenges head on. There have been concerns that both parties are not working closely to face competition. Sound bite of Mr Yeo. (00:03:52)

    3)  Singapore: Cancellation of two concerts raised concerns over the damage to Singapore's reputation as a concert venue. Singapore Tourism Board stands behind the country's track record as a venue for quality events and concerts. (00:04:28)

    4)  Singapore minute: RSS Courageous defendant lawyer discredited the prosecution's maritime expert for the second day running. Defending lawyer claimed that Captain Hilbert Fernandez massaged and deliberately misrepresented evidence. The Deputy Public Prosecutor refuted claims he was biased. (00:05:26)

    5)  Singapore minute: A civic group has submitted its recommendation on the welfare of foreign domestic workers to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). It involves creating specific laws to look after the rights of maids and a resource centre to bring together all parties that deal with maids. (00:05:55)

    6)  Singapore minute: At the Asia Media Festival, MediaCorp TV Channel 5 bagged two golds and a silver at Promax and Broadcast Designers' Association Asia Awards. It won the best promotion campaign for free-to-air television. The awards went to the campaign for Phua Chu Kang and True Files, and Channel 5's sales & marketing presentation on the 2004 Olympics.     13)  World minute: A 16-metre high aquarium in a Berlin hotel allows underwater rides in a built-in elevator. The ride cost US$16. (00:17:32)

    14) Singapore: Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong and Portuguese leader Jose Barroso meet in Lisbon, Portugal. The bilateral meeting serves to strengthen economic, cultural and political ties.     15)  Business Tonight: American International Assurance (AIA) may face a revolt from its insurance agents if it revokes commissions from agents who "churn" investment-based policies. Life Insurance Association said that AIA is not wrong and believes that "churning" is unprofessional and against the interests of policy holders.  (00:19:56)

    16)  Business Tonight: Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia is targeting Singapore passengers with the launch of five new direct services from Senai Airport in Johor. AirAsia plans to fly directly out of Singapore. (00:20:21)

    17)  Business Tonight: Singapore is working with Media Hype on two new movie-making schemes which will provide S$$600,000 funding for budding filmmakers and scriptwriters. The aim is to make good Singapore films for export. (00:20:42)

    18)  Sports: Singapore crashes out of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games football tournament qualifiers when the Singapore Lions lost to Malaysia 0-2. This is Singapore's second defeat after it lost to Myanmar. (00:25:87)

    19)  Sports: In the National Basketball Association (NBA), Toronto beat Philadelphia 95-88. Toronto led most of the way again with one of the highest percentages of the season. (00:27:14)
