    1.  Singapore: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is taking steps to ensure that its 1500 staff at its headquarters are more aware of security. It also urged all principals and CEOs of institutes of higher learning to be vigilant. This came a day after the Home Affairs Minister revealed that the MOE headquarters was a target of the Jemaah Islamiyah. Sound bite of Liew Choon Boon, Director of Corporate Services, MOE.     2.  Singapore: For thirty years, DSO National Laboratories (DSO)'s focus was on Singapore's top secret defence research, but is now going beyond R&D into the practicality of protecting national security using high tech innovation.     3.  Singapore: Dengue cases are up this year and this is due to the effects of El Nino. The warm weather is causing mosquitoes to feed more often and multiply faster.     6.  US: A US judge has sentenced a tearful and apologetic John Philip Walker or the "American Taliban", to twenty years in prison for fighting in support of the Taliban.(00:10:48)

    7.  US: Briton Richard Reid or the "Shoe Bomber" remained defiant despite pleading guilty for trying to blow up a plane using explosives in his shoe. He faces at least 60 years in prison.  (00:11:28)

    8.  US: A court in the United States has ordered tobacco giant Philip Morris, to pay a record US$28 billion in damages to a woman suffering from terminal lung cancer.
