- Mr Lee took over the restaurant in August 1971. The rental in Gay World was cheap - $1,100 per month
- the restaurant was popular since the 1930s. It was famous for its chicken dish. It also distributed mooncakes for sale to about
50 to 60 shops throughout Singapore. The Tai Tong Restaurant in Gay World was not related to the Tai Tong mooncake shop in
Chinatown
- the Tai Tong Restaurant in Gay World had about 11 main staff and 30 casual workers. The ground floor of the restaurant had 40
tables, the second floor had 45 tables and the third floor had 37. A special lift delivered food to the second floor
- the restaurant closed in 1984 due to various reasons: government's notice, the chef was getting old and sick, the sale of
mooncakes was not enough to cover the cost of rental and operations as well as staff's salaries
(00:41:19) Mr Lee Weng Lee conducted tour of the restaurant - kitchen, chimney, the pulley mechanism to deliver food from the kitchen to
the dining area
