Synopsis :Commentary by former Medical Director; inside Respiratory Medicine Sleep Laboratory which is for patients whose sleep problems cause respiratory disabilities; short discourse on how Tan Tock Seng initially was a free hospital for sick poor with only C class beds; now mainly B2 class beds since class wards initiated in late 1970's.
Cell-like room with bed and toilet; formerly used by inmates of Changi Prison who required medical attention; inside of Geriatric Medicine which was established in mid-1980's; large space allowed for specialised treatment and included physiotherapy area and central nurse's station.
Outside Cardio-Thoracic Theatre Suite which was opened in 1967; first open-heart surgery and also first coronary bypass operation in Singapore conducted here; theatre now used for general surgery; x-ray clinics; the first screenings were conducted in pavilion wards; later Rotary Clinic used for chest X-rays; then new clinic in multi-storey block.
First full-body scanner and Advanced Imaging Centre to cater for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound and Angiography; view of body-scanner; staff at work in Advanced Imaging Centre.
Plaques preserved from former main-entrance; Chinese plaque dates from 1844, other plaques summarise hospital's history. Old pavilion wards donated by philanthropists but plaques lost during renovation work.
Respiratory Function Lab, built in and 1960's first comprehensive one in Singapore.
Conference rooms; teaching remains important function of the hospital; meetings, lectures and examinations held here; view of interior of conference room.
