Synopsis :Two villages, Xicun and Dongcun, are separated by a river. However, the people from these two villages have become enemies in recent years. Xing, a young man from Xicun, returns to his village after five years away and his lover, Ling, is from a poor family in Dongcun. Shortly after his return, Xing sneaks into Dongcun to meet Ling. Upon knowing that her parents are approaching, Ling urges Xing to leave immediately to avoid being scolded by them. Xing tries to meet Ling again that night, but he mistakenly believes that Ling has jumped into the river to kill herself.
