  • Synopsis :

Gusao Pagoda is also called Guansuo Pagoda. It is located on top of Baogai Mountain on the sea coast south of Quanzhou in Fujian province. The Pagoda was built more than eight hundred years ago by a monk during the Southern Song dynasty. It was said that a man who lived at the foot of Baogai Mountain left for overseas to seek his fortune. After he left, his wife and younger sister went to the top of the Baogai Mountain to look out for returning ships every day. The women later died tragically on top of the Mountain. To commemorate them, people name the pagoda, Gusao.
