The battle of Yamen, also known as the battle of Ya Shan, is considered to be the last stand of the Song Dynasty against the Yuan Dynasty. Yamen is located at Xinhui County in Guangdong. In that battle, the Yuan navy, led by Zhang Hongfan, attacked the Song navy, led by Zhang Shijie. The Yuan navy delivered a crushing tactical and strategic victory, annihilating the Song. After their defeat, Prime Minister Lu Xiufu jumped into the sea, carrying the boy emperor, Zhao Bing, and committed suicide. Many officials and concubines followed suit.
