- PM Lee extends a warm welcome to PM Nakasone and his delegation;
- The deepening relationship between Japan and ASEAN since the 1970s and the increasing inter-dependence of both;
- How Japan and the ASEAN nations managed to weather the 2 oil crisis in 1973 and 1979 better than others;
- The energy-conservation efforts of Japan and the new Japanese focus on knowledge-based industries such as computers, data-processing, communication's, robotics etc.;
- How Singapore has gained from the Japanese experience and expertise, especially in the area of human resource development;
- The Japanese trade with and investment in Singapore and ASEAN;
- How the continued economic progress of East Asia and ASEAN depends on maintaining the balance of security and stability in Cambodia and the neighbouring states;
- The importance of Japan's support for ASEAN's position on Cambodia.

4) Speech by Japanese PM Yasuhiro Nakasone (in Japanese with accompanying translation into English):
- PM Nakasone thanked PM Lee for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and his delegation;
- PM Nakasone described his favourable impressions of the development and progress of Singapore and especially her clean and green environment and her "Garden City" concept;
- PM Nakasone explained why some members of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan were envious of the many election victories scored by PM Lee's political Party;
- PM Nakasone described his early days in politics and his political philosophy;
- The world economy and the adverse consequences of narrow-minded policies of protectionism;
- A call to world leaders to re-vitalise the world economy.
