  • Synopsis :

This is a recording of a PKMS rally at Kaki Bukit. It begins with the running candidate Mr Ibrahim Arif claiming that PAP increased the number of minority-raced MPs within the party as proof that there is no need for external representation by opposition parties, but their reliability is being doubted.

Following that, PKMS welcomes guest speaker Mr JB Jeyaretnam of Workers' Party to address the audience. He expresses his support for Mr Ibrahim Arif, and declares that a vote for PKMS is a vote for Workers' Party. He also states that due to the cordial relationship between PKMS and WP, both are supportive of each other. He agrees with PKMS on the need for an effective opposition to uphold parliamentary democracy and prevent abuse of power, especially after 21 years of single-party government. He asserts that the people should want a check into any abuse of executive power, be given the right to think for themselves, and be told the reasons for any decision that is made. He then quotes Sir John Dalberg-Acton with ""absolute power corrupts absolutely"", by pointing out a trend where any criticism of PAP's policies have been met with punishment.

Mr Ibrahim Arif then closes the speech by asserting that PKMS supports Mr Jeyaretnam's statements. He also quotes the Article 152 and 153 of the SIngapore Constitution as support for the needs of Malays in Singapore. He ends with conveying his empathy for residents going through difficulties, and hopes to give back to the needy.
