Synopsis :In this press conference Indonesian Foreign Minister Dr Mochtar Kusumaatmadja touches on issues discussed at the Sixth Non-Aligned Summit in Cuba from 3 to 8 September 1979. He says that a paragraph on Timor reappeared in the draft in Havana although it was not there previously. Indonesia had to undo this, clearly define the principles of the non-aligned movement into the draft and get the Timor paragraph out of it. The issue was referred to the ministerial meeting and later to the Summit. This precedent should be avoided. At the last minute, the host country should not come up with a new draft. Countries like Yugoslavia, Indonesia and India are trying to prevent this. Dr Mochtar also says that Indonesia wants more cooperation between non-aligned members as a pre-requisite for the movement's credibility. Members should concentrate on economic and development cooperation in areas like poverty, backwardness and illiteracy. African countries are unhappy that OPEC members contribute very little towards economic cooperation. The richer OPEC countries should help out poorer countries. Indonesia and Singapore want more cooperation with countries like Japan and India. He also feels that the movement will not tilt towards the Soviet Union or any other bloc in future.
