  • Synopsis :

    This is a recording of speeches delivered by Mr Chan Chee Seng, Parliamentary Secretary for Social Affairs and Dr Goh Keng Swee, Minister of Finance, at the laying of foundation stone ceremony for the National Stadium at Kallang Sports Complex. Dr Goh speaks about the stages of development of this project and why he feels that sportsmen and women of Singapore deserve such a stadium. Referring to the absence of a policy on sports in Singapore, he indicates 2 aspects of policy on sports if Singapore were to have one. They are:
    - Maximum participation by citizens in all kinds of sporting events;
    - Developing standards of excellence. Dr Goh also speaks about the need to concentrate on sporting events that are neglected in the West and in Asia and in which Singaporeans are not in physical disadvantage.
