Synopsis :Mr S. Rajaratnam, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Labour, gives a lunch-hour meeting talk in the series "The Making of A Nation" at the St Andrew's Cathedral. In his talk on "What Lies Ahead For Singapore", Mr Rajaratnam looks into Singapore's immediate future and discusses his projection over the next 2 to 5 years, which he deems as the critical years for Singapore.
In this part of his talk, he explains the need for Singapore to look at the bigger picture. He discusses how big powers outside Southeast Asia can affect the lives of the people in Singapore and the concern over how the vacuum in Southeast Asia will be filled with the withdrawal of Western powers from the region, militarily. He goes on to discuss why the people must be prepared to change their understanding as the world changes.
