  • Synopsis :

    1) Welcome speech by Chairman of the Celebrations Committee (Hokkien).
    2) Presentation of Garlands.
    3) Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew's speeches at the Toa Payoh CC Celebrations for the Conferment of Public Service Star Awards on Mr Tan Tong Meng and Buang Bin Siraj (Malay, English & Hokkien):
    - Call to the young to learn English but keep that which lead us to our histories, cultures and civilisations;
    - Out of our past, we will create a present and a future that is worthy of Singaporeans;
    - Toa Payoh represents our pioneering spirit;
    - Young had not experienced life as a "subject people". Not to take "Free Man" status for granted;
    - To train the young in a way to make them fit to face up to new problems that are being encountered;
    - Singapore is an oasis in Southeast Asia. The young must learn to defend what we have achieved or we will lose in the end;
    - Disclosure of the introduction of the National Service Bill in Parliament.
