Synopsis :In this recording, British Secretary of Defence Denis Healy who is shortly to hold talks in Singapore and Malaysia says that during his visit, he wants to discuss Britain's role in defending Singapore and Malaysia in the 1970s with his peers in the two countries. He believes that the people of Asia have the same rights to enjoy peace and freedom as the people of Europe. But they have to decide how far they can count on a country 9000 miles away to achieve this. Britain does not want to stay in the region if it is not wanted, or on conditions that make no sense to it. But it has no intention of defaulting on its obligations to Singapore and Malaysia to resist Indonesian confrontation. During his visit he also hopes to discuss how Singapore, Malaysia and Britain can work together in the long term.
