  • Synopsis :

    This tape contains 2 separate recordings:

    1) This is a recording of a press conference held by Economic Development Board (EDB) Chairman Mr Hon Sui Sen on the Flatted Factory Scheme in Singapore.

    Mr Hon provides details of this new scheme such as:

    - The reasons for introducing the flatted factory scheme in Singapore;
    - Locations of flatted factories;
    - Facilities;
    - Estimated construction cost;
    - Types of industries that can be housed in flatted factories.
    Topics/questions raised include:
    (a) Rental cost of flatted factory;
    (b) The pooling of common facilities and the centralisation of technical services to be provided by the EDB,
    (c) Number of applications received by EDB.

    2) This is a recording of Minister for Health Yong Nyuk Lin's speech at the opening of the 2nd Conference of Malaysian Directors of Medical Services. In his speech, Mr Yong touches on:

    - The achievements of the 1st Conference held some six months ago;
    - What  he hopes such regular gatherings can achieve for the medical professionals;
    - The 2 important matters at hand:
    (a) Cholera outbreaks, (b) The shortage of doctors in the government service;
    - The proposed reorganisation of the Ministry of Health.
