Synopsis :This is a recording of two BBC broadcasts about Malaysia.
1) The first broadcast is for the programme 'The World Today' on the BBC General Overseas Service. It is on the background to the postponement of the formation of the new Malaysia on 31 August till the United Nations (UN) inquiry has established the opinions of the people of the two Borneo territories, and the root cause of Indonesia's President Sukarno's 'objection to the Malaysia plan'. 2) The second is a BBC update on the new Malaysia, which will come into being about the middle of September. The report covers the four governments of Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak and North Borneo with the British Commonwealth and Colonial Secretary Duncan Sandys reaching 'final agreement on all major points' after a meeting in Kuala Lumpur. It updates on the UN official working team continuing their inquiry in Sarawak and North Borneo and the developments, including the incident in Sibu where the 'Communists infiltrated Sarawak United People's Party cause trouble for the UN team particularly.
