  • Synopsis :

    The ceremony for the signing of the agreement between EDB and Ishikawajima Harimau Heavy Industries Ltd of Japan (IHI) is to establish the Jurong Shipyard Limited as a joint venture between IHI and Singapore Government.

    The first to give a speech is EDB Chairman Hon Sui Sen. He says this agreement is a 'happy augury for Singapore' to be selected by IHI, the world's largest shipbuilding firm in 1962, to be its partner in its second overseas shipbuilding venture.

    The next speaker is IHI's Managing Director Dr H Shinto. Third to speak is Minster for Finance Dr Goh Keng Swee who draws attention to three points raised by Japanese industrialists in their discussion with Dr Goh. Having the last word is Japan's Consul General in Singapore K. Maeda.
