Synopsis :This programme is a documentary on the growing consumerist culture in Singapore. It features the issue of consumers’ purchasing experience of fault goods and discuses the causes of such experiences such as due to overpromising advertisements and unscrupulous manufacturers. It also features the current legislations in place that supposedly protects consumers’ rights as well as measures that are taken by departmental stores or advertising agencies to ensure the quality of the product they are selling. The programme features several commentaries from various professionals in different fields giving their opinions on the problems that surface from the consumerist culture. It also discusses the efforts taken by the Consumers’ Association of Singapore in trying to prevent harmful consequences as a result of by-products or the product itself, and questions who should be deemed at fault when such situations arise.
The programme features interviews with Chairman, Consumers’ Association of Singapore (CASE), Lee Ngiak Siang (李岳祥); President, Advertising Standards Authority of Singapore (ASAS), Alan Kerr (雅伦柯尔); and President, Association of Media Owners of Singapore (AMOS), Qiu Zheng Wen (邱征文).
