Synopsis :The programme 'Diary Of A Nation - Part 1' consists of the following 10 episodes telecast between January 1988 to May 1988:
1. Radio Singapore (00:12:32), telecast on 4th January 1988 - this episode features interviews with the early radio producers and highlights the kind of programmes produced for Radio Singapore.
2. Family Planning (00:11:46), telecast on 7th January 1988 - this episode looks at the conditions in Singapore during the early years of nationhood that called for family planning, the work of the Singapore Planning and Population Board set up on 7th January 1966 to introduce family planning to Singaporeans, the changing social and economic conditions that have since taken place, and the need to review family planning policy.
3. Community Centres (00:08:12), telecast on 9th January 1988 - this episode looks at the role of community centres and the kind of activities and services that the centres provide.
4. Homes For Our People (00:11:15), telecast on 3rd February 1988 - this episode looks at home ownership in Singapore, the development of Housing and Development Board (HDB) housing and how it has led to a nation of homeowners.
5. TV Singapura (00:13:05), telecast on 15th February 1988 - this episode looks at the introduction of television service in Singapore in 1963, how it has impacted on the lives of Singaporeans in general and how news stories were covered and telecast then. Included is an excerpt of Minister for Culture S. Rajaratnam's speech (with audio), “And tonight might well mark the start of a social and cultural revolution in our lives.”.
6. National Service (00:09:59), telecast on 27th February 1988 - this episode examines the reasons for introducing national service in Singapore, its reception by the people and its impact on Singapore.
