  • Synopsis :

    1. Chairman of Economic Development Board (EDB), Hon Sui Sen, and joint venture partner, E. J. Meyer, signing agreement for a new shipyard, with Minister of Finance Dr Goh Keng Swee looking on; signing of another agreement for a Japanese heavy industries company; exchange of gifts; audience; work in progress on site of Jurong Shipyard; reclaimed land; Dr Goh opening a new lubricating oil plant; oil lubrication process; tests  conducted in laboratories; oil refinery at Pulau Bukom; processing of bitumen; and making of oil drums.

    2. Rose Eberwein, one of Singapore's most famous dancers, performing a Spanish dance in traditional Filipino costume; an aboriginal tribal costume from the Philippines; and traditional Japanese dance and costume.

    3. Children lining streets and waving flags; Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew visiting rural areas; shaking hands with the people; talking to farmers in the Jurong farmlands; examining egg and chickens; speaking to fishermen; welcomed with a lion dance in the Thomson constituency; visiting Home for the Aged run by the Little Sisters of the Poor; talking to the senior citizens; welcomed by the Malay elders and Malay band at Kampong Kembangan; visiting the Muslim Womens' Welfare Home at Jalan Eunos; inspecting drains and bad roads; silat performance; waving goodbye.

    4. Figurines; men playing instruments; street procession; devotees carrying kavadi (structure that pierces needles into the body); prayer rites; altar; and praying devotees.
