STATEMENT FROM THE PRIME MINISTER�S OFFICE

 

APPOINTMENT OF JUDGE OF THE HIGH COURT

 

 

The President acting in his discretion has been pleased to appoint Mr V K Rajah, age 47, presently a Judicial Commissioner, as a Judge of the High Court under Article 95 of the Constitution with effect from 1 November 2004.

 

Before his appointment as a Judicial Commissioner on 2 January 2004, Mr Rajah was the managing partner in the law firm Rajah & Tann. Mr Rajah graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1982 and obtained his Masters of Law (First Class) from the University of Cambridge in 1986. He was among the first batch of lawyers in Singapore to be appointed Senior Counsel in 1997.

 

The appointment of Mr V K Rajah will bring the number of permanent Judges in both the Court of Appeal and the High Court to thirteen.
