WO 203/2880: SEAC.  Movement and Transportation Division. Recovered Allied prisoners of war and internees (RAPWI) : general operational correspondence.
01/09/1945-30/09/1945
Correspondence and memos pertaining to Recovered Allied Prisoners of War and Internees (RAPWI).  War Office directed that RAPWI should be shipped home as air transport is not suitable. Transportation by sea to Middle East and then by air from Middle East to U.K. will cause delays as air trooping flow was only 300 per day. Correspondence also covered the registration of graves which proved to be a difficult task as records of the dead were meagre. Heaviest work expected to be in Burma, Siam and Malaya, in particular the Siam-Burma railway area.
