POSTERS IN POSTERS DATABASE
NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF SINGAPORE displays selected posters in its collection for the purpose of research and reference. If you wish to use or reproduce a poster held in the collection of the NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF SINGAPORE, first check ‘conditions governing access’ that is displayed with each image. To find out more about 'conditions governing access', kindly go to the section below titled "COPYRIGHT AND ACCESS CONDITIONS".
Unauthorised use or reproduction of the posters or poster images in the Posters Database is not permitted. All poster images in the Posters Database are watermarked.
ORDERING POSTERS IN POSTERS DATABASE
To acquire a non-exclusive, non-sub licensable, non-transferable right to use and reproduce the poster images in our Posters Database, please submit a request via NAS e-Request system.
No ownership or copyright in any image shall pass to the requestor or user as a result of National Archives of Singapore providing the images to the requestor or user.
The images may not be used for any unlawful purpose or use or to defame any person or in any manner contrary to the public interest.

COPYRIGHT AND ACCESS CONDITIONS

For poster images displayed with access condition: VIEWING PERMITTED. USE AND REPRODUCTION ONLY WITH PERMISSION.
For permission to reproduce and use the poster images displayed with this access condition, please submit a request to National Archives of Singapore.
Upon agreement by National Archives of Singapore to provide the ordered images, the order will be processed upon payment of applicable fees.
You can request for digital copies of the poster images. A Request Administration Fee will be payable for the digital copies. Please refer to the section on CHARGES.

For poster images displayed with access condition: VIEWING PERMITTED. USE AND REPRODUCTION REQUIRE WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM COPYRIGHT OWNER.
For permission to reproduce and use the poster images displayed with this access condition, you will first have to submit a request to National Archives of Singapore. You may be advised to seek clearance from the rights owner(s) after we have reviewed your order.
Once written permission has been obtained from the copyright owner, a copy of the approval has to be provided to National Archives of Singapore for verification.
Upon agreement by National Archives of Singapore to provide the ordered images, the order will be processed upon payment of applicable fees.
You can request for digital copies of the poster images. A Request Administration Fee will be payable for the copies. Please refer to the section on CHARGES.

For poster images displayed with access condition: VIEWING PERMITTED. COMMERCIAL USE AND REPRODUCTION REQUIRE WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM COPYRIGHT OWNER.
We will review your order upon receiving your request and advise you accordingly. Upon agreement by National Archives of Singapore to provide the ordered images, the order will be processed upon payment of applicable fees.
You can request for digital copies of the poster images. A Request Administration Fee will be payable for the copies. Please refer to the section on CHARGES.

For poster images displayed with access condition: APPLICATION FOR USE (AND REQUEST FOR COPIES) HAS TO BE MADE DIRECTLY WITH COPYRIGHT OWNER.
National Archives of Singapore is unable to provide the above-said category of images. You will need to contact the copyright owners directly to request for copies. National Archives of Singapore may in some cases, be able to give you details of the copyright owners.

For poster images displayed with access condition: VIEWING PERMITTED ONLY. NO REPRODUCTION IS ALLOWED.
For poster images in this category, National Archives of Singapore is unable to provide copies and you will have to determine and look to the copyright owner for copies.
NOTE: For instances in which the copyright owners are unknown
Under the Singapore Copyright Act (Cap. 63), the term of protection for "literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works" which include poster images are 70 years from the end of the year in which the author or copyright owner died. If the work is published after the death of the author or copyright owner, it lasts for 70 years, from the end of the year in which the work was first published. Please refer to the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS)'s official website or your lawyers for more information on copyright. Hence, if you are seeking permission to reproduce and use poster images for which the copyright owners are unknown, you will have to first resolve the copyright issues.
ADDITIONAL TERMS & CONDITIONS GOVERNING USAGE
For poster images under 2 and 3 in the section "COPYRIGHT AND ACCESS CONDITIONS", National Archives of Singapore is unable to provide you with the poster images unless permission is obtained by the user or requestor from the copyright owner. Please submit your request first to National Archives of Singapore and we will advise you on contacting the rights owner(s).
In your application to seek permission from the copyright owners, please include the points stated in the section "TEMPLATE FOR APPLICATION TO COPYRIGHT OWNER FOR PERMISSION".
Kindly also note the following:
- • Requestor and user agree to assume all responsibility for safekeeping and use of the copies of poster images obtained from National Archives of Singapore. These should be used in a respectful manner without altering the poster images in any manner. The copies provided by National Archives of Singapore must not be handed over to other parties by the requestor and they shall be properly destroyed once the original usage declared to National Archives of Singapore has been completed.
- • It is the requestor’s and user’s responsibility to ensure that any party engaged or employed or contracted to carry out work with the images do not retain the images after the work is completed and the images are not handed over to or transmitted to any other party.
- • Requestor and user must agree to display an acknowledgement or credit line as provided by National Archives of Singapore with each poster image used or reproduced.
- • It is the requestor's and user's responsibility to ensure that copyright is not infringed and any infringement that does occur is the sole responsibility of the requestor and user.
- • An order is only formally placed with National Archives of Singapore(NAS) when NAS receives an application via NAS e-Request system. An offer will be made by NAS in the form of a quotation for the poster images that NAS can provide. NAS’s offer will automatically lapse after 2 months from the date of the quotation if the quotation is not accepted with NAS receiving payment for the order. Any subsequent request for images will have to be submitted through a fresh application via the NAS e-Request system.
CHARGES
Digital copies of poster images will be provided only upon payment of an amount consisting of a Request Administration Fee. The Request Administration Fee is charged in recognition of the cost of managing and preserving the posters and in administering and servicing requests for copies of poster images.
Orders for reproduction of archival posters will be processed when all approvals for reproduction and use of the poster images have been given and upon receipt of the applicable payment.

What You Should Know Before You Place Your Order
- The digital images that NAS provide are dependent on the quality of pictures as received or as reproduced by vendors and their quality can vary. The digital images provided are of custom (not exhibition) quality and may differ from the copy shown online.
- We seek your kind understanding of any delay in meeting orders for digital images should the Photo Service Team experience high volume of reproduction orders.
- The Photo Service Team will deliver the digital images to you via electronic means.
TEMPLATE FOR APPLICATION TO COPYRIGHT OWNER FOR PERMISSION
In your application to seek permission to acquire and use copies of the poster images from the copyright owner, you should include the following:

Poster requested
Media and Image / Accession / Microfilm Number Brief Description of Poster Thumbnail of Image - Name of party applying for and responsible for the use of the poster images.
- Context in which the poster images will be used i.e. title of project and nature of project (e.g. publication, documentary or thesis).
- That you and/or the user will assume all responsibility for the use and will handle any enquiry or feedback on the use of the poster images and will deal with any public query promptly should the need arise.
- That you and/or the user will use the poster images only for the specific purpose stated in your request.
