The Malay Regiment was formed at Port Dickson in 1933. War hero Lieutenant Adnan Saidi of the Malay Regiment died fighting the Japanese in one of the fiercest World War II battles in Singapore at the Battle of Opium Hill (Bukit Chandu), off Pasir Panjang.
