Marine Department (MD)
The Marine Department was reorganised in 1964. Its functions were previously carried out by the Master Attendant's Office. It was divided into the Nautical Section, the Registry and Licensing Section, the Engineering and Lights Section, the Crew Section, the Shipping Section and Finance and the Administration Section.

In May 1967, the Marine and Marine Surveys Departments were integrated into a new Marine Department comprising 2 divisions: the Administration Division and the Surveys Division, each headed by a Deputy Director who is responsible to the Director of Marine.  The Marine Department is responsible for enhancing the safety of shipping and registration and survey of ships, certification of seagoing officers and control of the manning of ships.
