Congratulations to Our NHB Heritage Award Winners!

The National Archives of Singapore (NAS) extends its warmest wishes to our donors who were named Friends of Heritage at the National Heritage Board's Patron of Heritage Awards, held at the Asian Civilizations Museum on 15 April 2008.

Ms Bridget Choy, the daughter of Singapore war heroine Mrs Elizabeth Choy, for donating a valuable collection of her mother's personal papers and belongings. Mrs Elizabeth Choy won fame for her selfless and courageous acts during the Japanese Occupation, smuggling supplies to British POWs and enduring torture by the Japanese Kempeitai.

The family of Mr Lim Kim San, represented by Mr Lim Kiat Seng, for the donation of Mr Lim Kim San's personal items, records and documents. Mr Lim Kim San was a member of the First Cabinet of the Republic of Singapore. Known as an indispensable problem-solver who helmed many key ministries, in particular the Ministries of Finance and National Development, the late Mr Lim is best remembered as the person who led the Housing Development Board in solving Singapore's abysmal housing problems in the 1960's.

Ms Tham Yee Van, for donating and loaning an extensive collection of the personal records and documents of her father, Mr Tham Sien Yen, a leader of Force 136, an anti-Japanese resistance group established by the British soon after the fall of Singapore.
