INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Records Management Seminor 2011 (Custodian or Information Provider - A Balanced Approach) saw the active discussion and engagement between guest speakers and participants on issues ranging from the provision of access to archives to the significant role that archives play in community engagement, education and enriching the people’s lives. It attracted 114 participants from 31 public agencies and 8 delegates from National Archives of the Philippines, who were on three-day training attachment at NAS (29 Nov to 1 Dec 2011).

NAS hosted a 2-day study visit programme for Mr Victorino Manalo, Executive Director of National Archives of the Philippines, covering briefings on our core functions and operations, as well as tours to our various laboratories from 28 - 29 May 2012.

Four senior delegates from Botswana (Ministry of Trade and Industry) and their consultant visited NAS on 9 May 2012 to study NAS’ records management practices, in particular our eRegistry system.

There was a time when postal codes consisted of only 4 digits and when the Singapore River was a scene of filth lined with shacks and roadside hawkers. There was also a time when people wondered how the MRT, the most popular mode of public transport today, could actually impact their lives and when farmers got paid for their crops when asked to relocate. Those were the years between 1975 and 1985, the second decade that follows the first 10 years of independence. It was a time of both opportunities and obstacles; a time for improvements and new challenges.   Read More

Book Cover

The National Archives of Singapore, together with publisher Cengage Learning Asia, presents 《新加坡选择了李光耀》 (Singapore Chose Lee Kuan Yew). This Chinese-language nine-volume series depicts Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s illustrious career of over 60 years from different perspectives, such as nation building, diplomacy, family and friendship, and personal health. Together, the volumes will give readers more insight into the history of modern Singapore and a better understanding of Mr Lee as a far-sighted and resolute statesman committed to making Singapore a respected and successful country, a good friend and colleague, and a caring husband and father.

The series is available in hardback and paperback for purchase from major local bookstores from mid September 2013. Reference copies will also be available at the National Library and all public libraries by then.

The latest ten volumes of "The Papers of Lee Kuan Yew: Speeches, Interviews and Dialogues" was launched on 27 March 2013. Covering Mr Lee’s tenures as senior minister and minister mentor from 1990 to 2011, this collection is a record of his statements and thoughts over the last two decades. As with the first ten volumes which span 1950 to 1990, the latest volumes were researched and produced through the joint efforts of the National Archives of Singapore, the Office of the Press Secretary to Mr Lee, and Cengage Learning Asia. Members of the public can access the publications at NAS’ Reading Room from 28 March and at the national and public libraries in the coming months. An e-book version for the first ten volumes is also available at the National Library Board’s eResources website.
